Classroom Goals
The purpose of this course is to enable students to acquire and organize information about government, geography, and economics in the United States of America.
Guidelines for Success
Students will be successful if they follow the LASOTA guidelines for success.
Classroom Rules
1. Be prepared. Have all materials at the beginning of class.
2. Be attentive. Follow directions the first time they are given.
3. Be kind. Be patient with your classmates and teacher. Treat others as you want to be treated.
4. Be on-task. Participate at all times. Turn in all assignments.
5. Follow CHAMP’s
Activities
As we explore the Civics curriculum, students will participate in discussions, readings, note taking, classroom activities and projects, workbook packets, chapter reviews, quizzes and chapter tests. Students will be expected to complete a State End-of-Course Exam. The EOC will count as thirty percent of the final average for your Civics grade. Enrichment materials such as photographs, videos, handouts and music will be incorporated into the course. All class activities and programs will be tied to the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and the Common Core Standards.
Work Submission
Due to current circumstances, all work must be uploaded into Focus only. No paper work will be accepted until further notice.
Grades
Grades will be determined by performance tasks, active classroom participation and the completion of homework, quizzes and tests. All assignments will be graded on a point-based grading scale. Late work will be accepted with a penalty.
Learning Recovery
Learning recovery is available throughout the school year.
• Unit tests that are less than a 70% may be recovered to a maximum score of 70% by completing the test recovery form found on the class website.
• Class assignments that are less than 100% may be edited and revised for full credit.
• Quizzes MAY NOT be recovered. Study!
Civics Textbook
Our textbook, Florida Civics, can be found on the student’s OneView page and our LaVilla Civics Website. Your student can also bring in a flash drive that the book can downloaded.
Materials
One 3 Ring Binder (1.5 inch)
Notebook Paper
